Polestar 3 Secures 5-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating, Records Highest Child Occupant Score In 9 Years
The Polestar 3 has received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP in the independent body’s latest round of vehicle testing. The SUV earned an overall score of 87%, with strong results across all four major categories: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users, and Safety Assist.
Record Performance in Child Safety
The Polestar 3 achieved a 93% score in the Child Occupant category—the highest score given by Euro NCAP for any passenger vehicle since 2016. This category evaluates the protection offered to child passengers during frontal and side impact crashes, as well as the vehicle’s ability to accommodate various child restraint systems.
Lutz Stiegler, Polestar CTO, says “With a shared safety DNA with Volvo Cars there was no doubt in our minds how safe Polestar 3 is, and this five-star Euro NCAP rating simply reinforces that. And for us, safety is an inherent part of the Polestar performance ethos, so Polestar 3 customers can be safe in the knowledge our flagship SUV is fun and exciting to drive and takes care of them, and the people around them, at the same time.”
Strong Ratings in Other Categories
In addition to its child occupant rating, the Polestar 3 earned a 90% score for Adult Occupant protection. For Vulnerable Road Users, including pedestrians and cyclists, the SUV received a score of 79%. The Safety Assist systems category, which assesses crash avoidance and driver assistance technologies, was rated at 83%.
Second Polestar Model to Receive 5 Stars
The Polestar 3 becomes the second vehicle in the brand’s current line-up to be tested by Euro NCAP and receive a five-star rating, following the Polestar 2 in 2021.
Safety Technology and Design
The safety performance of the Polestar 3 benefits from shared engineering with Volvo Cars, including structural design and driver assistance features. These include Post Impact Braking, a Direct Assistance call system, and a Driver Monitoring System designed to respond to signs of fatigue or illness. The vehicle is equipped with multiple cameras, sensors and radar units to detect and react to potential hazards.
