German automaker Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the ID. Polo, marking the entry of the Polo nameplate into the electric vehicle space. The Polo electric is underpinned by the MEB+ architecture and will be introduced in international markets with pre-sales already underway.
The ID. Polo represents a transition for a hatchback that has recorded over 20 million unit sales globally. While the overall footprint remains familiar, the shift to a dedicated EV platform brings changes in packaging, features and powertrain options.

Volkswagen Polo Electric: Design

The ID. Polo adopts Volkswagen’s ‘Pure Positive’ design language with a closed front section, connected LED headlamps and an illuminated logo. The bumper carries vertical air channels and a wide lower intake. At the rear, the hatchback gets a full-width LED light bar, illuminated badging and a roof spoiler.
The silhouette remains close to the conventional Polo, with added elements such as flared wheel arches and aero-focused alloy wheels. The model measures 4,053mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,600mm. The C-pillar design references the Volkswagen Golf.
The electric platform has enabled changes in interior packaging. Boot capacity stands at 441 litres and extends to 1,240 litres with the rear seats folded. Volkswagen states that interior space is comparable to larger hatchbacks despite the compact exterior size.
